FAQ
What are the edges like?
There are no sharp corners.
Every edge has a 45 degree bevel and is polished by hand. So the edge looks great and is nice to touch.
Can the table stand up to my kids?
Yes! This table is designed for the highest level of durability.
Premium Finish: The tabletop is finished with Rubio Monocoat. This finish has excellent durability, chemical resistance, and moisture resistance.
Your tabletop gains beauty and character with use.
Built for refinishing: The top is designed for easy maintenance and refinishing.
Will humidity affect the wood?
No, the wood will not warp or cup as humidity changes.
This construction is far more stable than a wood table top.
As the seasons change, wood expands and contracts. This can cause wood tables to cup.
These tabletops will not warp wood because the wood is 1/8" thick. And this wood cannot move because it's bonded to a sheet of metal with marine grade epoxy.
Testing: To test the stability, I shipped these tables from Utah to Maine.
Even when temperature and humidity change, the tabletops remain flat.
How do I take care of the hardwood?
Simple care:
- Clean with a damp cloth, Rubio Monocoat soap or a mild cleaning spray
- Use coasters
- Wipe up standing water
Easy to renew:
You need no special tools to refresh the table top. You can do this every few years.
If the finish wears with heavy use and looks dry, these steps will bring the finish back to life.
- Clean the tabletop.
- Apply Rubio Monocoat Renew with a white finish pad.
- Let it sit for 5 minutes.
- Wipe the tabletop with a clean microfiber cloth (wipe it a lot, it will look much better)
Built for refinishing:
Original finish: Rubio Monocoat Oil Plus 2C Natural
- Sand with 150 grit sandpaper until you remove all scratches or blemishes. You can use an orbital sander or sand by hand.
- Sand with 180 grit paper until you remove all scratch marks from the 150 grit paper. You can use an orbital sander or sand by hand.
- Wipe or blow all dust from the table top.
- Mix the finish according to the specs on the can of finish.
- Apply the desired finish with a white scotch brite pad. Wear nitrile gloves.
- Let the finish sit for 5 minutes.
- Buff with a microfiber cloth until all wet spots are gone. You can’t wipe too much, but you can wipe too little.
How do I take care of raw steel and aluminum?
One step to clean and maintain
Spray bee’s wax onto the metal and buff with a microfiber. This restored luster and prevents corrosion. The Original Bee's Wax Old World Formula Furniture Polish is the best product I have found.
Raw aluminum and mill scale steel will patina with age. This patina process gives the piece a raw character that tells a story of the furniture’s life.
The mill scale steel can oxidize in humid environments or near the coast. However in dry environments, the steel will not oxidize. As long as you apply bee's wax and wipe up water.
How do I take care of the powder coat?
Maintenance Free & Easy to Clean
Powder coat requires no maintenance and has excellent chemical resistance. Mild household cleaners and a microfiber cloth work great for cleaning.
The legs can be removed and re-coated if the finish is damaged. A powder-coating facility can recoat the legs.
