Top: ⅛” carbon steel with mill scale. Mill scale is a ultra-hard, oxide layer formed when steel gets really hot. It has soft blue tones and a grain that makes every table unique. It ages like leather—earning a beautiful patina over time.

I got this great coffee table made by Sam. The table is steel, with a wood veneer layer on top. It is super sturdy and durable. After growing up with rickety furniture, it’s fun and weird to have a table I can just stand up on top of with no worries. The edges are super smooth, so they don’t hurt your shins when walking around it, and the table legs are set far enough under the top that you won’t trip or stub your toe on them. I love the finish on the steel, the blackening looks fantastic and is soft to the touch. The wood veneer is nice, having it on top of a steel surface gives the table the look and feel of wood. I bet the table would look great in just steel as well. The table is heavy, but it can slide easily on carpet so it’s not too difficult to move.
I love this coffee table, and I’m so excited to have a piece of furniture that I know is going to last forever, no matter what life throws at it.
